Self-Hosted Analytics: Eliminating Google Analytics via Umami
The Context: "The 3 AM Trigger"
We wanted simple visitor counts, but Google Analytics wanted user profiling, cross-site tracking, and cookies that require complex legal consents. We replaced it all with a local analytics engine.
The Problem Statement
Track platform visits and page views without collecting personally identifiable information (PII) or violating user privacy.
Visual Architecture: The Flow
The Core Logic / Process
Deploying Sovereign Analytics
We use Umami with Postgres backend:
- Hash IP addresses: Visitor IDs are dynamically generated hashes of the IP and user agent, rotated daily.
- GDPR Compliant by default: No tracking cookies are used.
- Optimized DB Indexes: Ensuring fast analytics query generation.
The "Baigan" Take (Expert Insights)
Why load a heavy tracking script that slows down your load time and sells user data? Baigan ka deal hai wo (a terrible deal). Run a lightweight Umami tracker and keep your performance and privacy intact.
