Local Metrics: Securing Prometheus and Grafana Dashboard Access

The Context: "The 3 AM Trigger"

Commercial cloud monitoring metrics are sent to remote dashboards. This leaks network topology, memory limits, and IP address mappings. We moved all monitoring to a local sovereign stack.

The Problem Statement

Collect and view system metrics securely without leaking infrastructure details to public endpoints.

Visual Architecture: The Flow

The Core Logic / Process

Local Metric Scraper Configuration

  1. Private VLAN: Exporters transmit metrics over isolated local network zones.
  2. Reverse Proxy Access: Grafana dashboards are accessible only via authenticated loopback setups.
  3. No External Outbox: Disable remote metrics write settings inside prometheus.yml.

The "Baigan" Take (Expert Insights)

Your server architecture stats are a map for hackers. Sharing them online is baigan level intelligence. Keep your metrics local, secure Prometheus, and restrict access.
